IS EVERYONE HYPNOTIZABLE? That’s a question I hear all the time.

The answer is… Yes! Everyone is hypnotizable… but you need to give yourself permission to be relaxed. If you don’t, you won’t relax.

Human beings are in a trance many times during the day. Every night when you go to sleep and wake up in the morning, that state between waking and sleeping is a trance.

If you have ever been driving on the freeway and missed your exit, you’ll know the feeling of Highway Hypnosis … yes there’s an actual name for that!

You see, your conscious mind is only 5% of your total mind power and that’s the only part of your brain that cares about actually getting off at your exit. The majority of your mind power… 95%… is in the subconscious realm and that part of your brain is free-flowing and only cares about keeping you safe. Once you can brake and accelerate without consciously thinking about it, your subconscious mind will take over. We call that “auto-pilot.”

New drivers don’t get into Highway Hypnosis because they need to think about what they are doing and can’t drive absentmindedly… yet!

In the above example, you can clearly see that hypnosis is not general anesthesia. You are awake and aware and know exactly what is going on at all times.

As a great illustration, I once worked with a woman who wanted to lose weight. She and her associates all took turns in her office bringing in donuts. While in hypnosis, we did some imagery where I had her imagine saying “no thank you” to the donuts.

When she awakened from hypnosis, she told me that she didn’t think she was under because she had heard every word I said. I asked her to come back in a week and to tell me how her week went.

She came in the following week and said, “You know… I must have been hypnotized because when someone offered me donuts, I just automatically said “No Thank You”  just like we rehearsed.” Although she didn’t believe it at the time, her subconscious mind definitely accepted the suggestions and, therefore, she went on to achieve her goal weight.

So, whether you want to lose weight, quit smoking, find relief from anxiety or have whatever you want to have in your life, trust in the ability of your subconscious mind to get you there. Hypnotherapy works.
