Whether it be chronic or acute pain, there are a variety of techniques used in Hypnosis to allow the subconscious mind to “turn down” the intensity of pain. Sometimes, this is as simple as introducing a breathing technique to aid with relaxation of the muscles, thereby immediately releasing the tension causing the pain. Additionally, most people are not aware that chronic pain can have a very powerful and very real emotional origin, sometimes referred to as the “Mind/Body Connection.” This phenomenon occurs when emotions that are too painful for the mind to process are transferred to the body. I highly recommend reading, “The Mindbody Prescription: Healing the Body, Healing the Pain” by Dr. John Sarno. Dr. Sarno’s premise is that most, if not all chronic pain has a root cause in unexpressed emotions, especially anger and rage.

Even when the physical pain is being treated by a medical professional, relaxation techniques can help chronic pain sufferers even further. Techniques such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which is often referred to as “tapping,” can be hugely beneficial in releasing deep-seated and long-repressed emotional “charges” that keep the body pain alive. Most times, these emotions are so deeply buried in the subconscious mind that the sufferer has no idea they are even there. I will work with you to identify and release hidden emotional pain that may be hurting you today. Studies have proven that identifying and releasing these repressed emotions have a direct benefit of releasing the very real physical body pain.
