As Human Beings, we need to always be managing our mind… or it will manage us!

They say something like 80% of human thoughts are negative and about 95% of them are repeated consistently. So, it’s likely for negative thoughts to creep in now and again for the best of us.

When this happens, we MUST be in a strong and resourceful state of mind, or there is a much lower likelihood of rebounding quickly from negative thinking.

As a Master Hypnotherapist and NLP Coach, I always use a combination of hypnosis and NLP coaching in all of my sessions for the maximum impact. The coaching establishes best practices for my clients and the hypnosis reinforces them in their subconscious mind so positive and productive thoughts, beliefs and actions become automatic.

For example, one of my clients has been a stellar sales performer in his organization. In fact, he won the MVP award last quarter. Several days ago he lost a deal he had been working on for some time and it sent him into a tailspin. I saw him the next day and he said, “I don’t know how to do this anymore. I think I’ve lost the knack. I think I just got lucky a lot over the last year and now, my luck has run out!”

It is SOOO easy to get in that deflated state of mind with a minor setback if you haven’t first fortified yourself emotionally. This is true whether you are talking about work, relationship, finances… you name it!

I said to him…  “First of all… remember that you are human… you win some, you lose some. Think about all of the deals you’ve been able to close in the last 12 months. Can you, in all honesty, call that luck? I mean one or two sales can be a stroke of luck of being in the right place at the right time… but to consistently be a top performer… Can you really say that is luck?”

He had no choice but to see his own value, which blew his original argument out of the water and lightened his mood considerably.

My advice to him moving forward was to put himself in a resourceful state BEFORE HE EVER MADE HIS FIRST PHONE CALL OF THE DAY. I suggested that he sit for just 15 minutes in the morning to set his day and remind himself of our conversation and the things we talked about. In fact, I made a hypnosis recording for him of all the positive suggestions we talked about so that he could listen to it in the morning to help set his day.

In addition to that, I advised him to have a reminder of all his achievements in front of him at any given time so he can REMEMBER WHY HE IS SO SUCCESSFUL BEFORE HE EVEN GETS ON THE PHONE WITH A PROSPECTIVE CLIENT. I ADVISED HIM TO VISUALIZE HIMSELF CONFIDENTLY ACHIEVING HIS GOAL WITH EVERY PERSON HE SPEAKS WITH THAT DAY. The day after our session he called me and told me he closed another sale and he couldn’t even imagine feeling the way he had felt the day before!

The bottom line is that life will serve us lemons from time to time and there’s not much we can do about that. We either suck on sour lemons or we make sweet lemonade with them… It’s our choice.
