A good NLP Coach and Time Line Therapy Practitioner enable clients to really “get” that it is their own interpretation of the events of their life that creates their current thoughts, and that when revisited from where they are now (with the focus on a positive spin), those events can really take on a whole new interpretation… This creates the shift that enables them to leave negative emotions in the past where they belong!

Somehow, that shift is permanent when our own subconscious mind suggests the new interpretation, which replaces the old, dis-empowering interpretation forever. In other words, the new positive belief now resides in that space where that old belief used to live, deep in the subconscious mind. So, the old belief simply disappears and can no longer be found because a new belief has taken its place.

Does this sound overly simplified and too good to be true? Maybe… but it is true. Because confidentiality is critical to my client-therapist relationship, I’m going to give you a real illustration from my own life of how this happens:

I was a very high-strung child who was an extreme perfectionist. I was terrified of making mistakes and as I grew older, I set ridiculously high standards for myself. If I was not #1 in something, I would dissolve into tears and not want to participate anymore.

As I grew into adulthood and found a super successful career in sales, even when I got the top performance review on my team and was #1 in the nation, I found myself terribly unhappy and couldn’t figure out the source of my sadness. It was like no matter what, I was never good enough for my own standards. When I hit A+ and there was nowhere else to go… no higher standard to attain… it would just make me sad. Was I clinically insane??

When I worked with a professional NLP Coach, the source surfaced… I was an unplanned child. I had known about this from my earliest recollection because my mom used to tell me that after having two boys how she never thought she would have a little girl and that I was an “accident,” but what a wonderful accident I was! What I heard was… “My parents couldn’t afford another child and didn’t want another child, but I barged my way into their lives anyway!”

When I examined the events now, I can’t even figure out how my mother’s loving words could have ever been interpreted as a negative… Further to that, how could this singular thought, from when I was a toddler, been running my life for decades? To top it off, I had no idea it was even there!

My learning that I got from it was “I was always trying to prove myself to prove I deserved to be born!!” What a revelation that was! The minute I got that learning, it was as though I was liberated from a lifelong prison cell!

The next question my coach asked me was, “What would I rather believe?” The words came to me easily and quickly… “I didn’t ask to be conceived… I am here because I am supposed to be here and I have nothing but possibilities to offer to the world!” EMPOWERMENT!

And so, I became a Master NLP Coach and Hypnotherapist, helping others to free themselves from their own self-imposed prison cells. The faces and stories are different for each of my clients, but the common thread is there…

If you feel overwhelmed by negative emotions at times, it is HIGHLY likely that illogical and irrational beliefs that you created during your childhood still live in your subconscious mind and run your life today. Even if you can identify them, the trick is for you to tap into your own subconscious mind in order to release them!
